Description
William Land Park is a huge park in Sacramento off of Interstate 5. It's 166 acres are filled with all the traditional amenities you would find at a park plus more! It is home to the Sacramento Zoo, Funderland Amusement Park, Fairytale Town, and a golf course. Funderland and Fairytale Town (both wonderful) have separate descriptions under the Amsuement Parks Section.
Land Park has 22 picnic sites, numerous soccer and ball fields, a basketball court, a lake with a fountain, miles of jogging trails, an amphitheater, pony rides, and so many big, old shade trees. The shade trees are probably the reason so many families and groups use this park on the weekends for get togethers. There are two parking lots, but they oftern fill up quick. However, there is street side parking on the roads that run throughout the park.
The playground at William Land Park is great. The whole play area is fenced in with only two entrances. There is a sand pit with a mechanical digger, lots of swings, a wading pool, two play structures, bathrooms, a preschool, and again, lots of shade.
The wading pool is fenced off and we have never seen kids in it, but it is there and didn't look totally neglected. The two play structures are pefectly geared towards tots and bigger kids with very appropriate challenges for each. Between them they have a total of six slides and numerous climbing opportunities.
There a benches throughout the play area for sitting and supervising. This park is the perfect oasis from the hustle and bustle of the big city.
