Description

Washington Park is a nice, huge park that sits adjacent to Robert Crown Memorial Beach, thus it seems even bigger. There are two parts to the Washington Park: an upper portion and a lower portion. The upper portion is where most of the facilities are and the lower portion (off of 8th street) is where the parking lot is located.

The upper portion of Washington Park includes two play areas with tanbark and a sandbox. There are 6 big kid and 2 tot swings and 7 slides. It has lighted ball fields, 2 full basketball courts, an active recreation center, bathrooms near the play areas, a group picnic area, and lots of shade. There are also many flat paths which are great for walking.

The lower portion of the park has the parking lot, 6 lighted tennis courts, a sand volleyball court, and a dog park. From here it is a short walk to the beach and Robert Crown.

Older Alamedans will remember this park as the one with the full-sized train engine which was great for climbing on. It's also noteworthy for its palm trees lining 8th Street.
