Sue Bierman Park is one of San Francisco's newest and neatest parks. The two facts I love the most about this park is: a) the park is set against the financial district skyline and the differences between the two are stunning. And b) as of 1989 the land for this park wasn't usable because it was on-ramps and off-ramps for the Embarcadero Freeway.
As many people know, the Embarcadero Freeway was damaged in the 1989 Loma Prieta Earthquake. The land was first named Ferry Park and consisted of grassy areas for the community. Ferry Park was later renamed Sue Bierman Park and the beautiful playground opened in July 2013.
The playground has very cool pirate themed structures. I love how the vibrancy of the colors contrasts with the tall building surrounding it. My kids especially liked the climbing dome. It was a great challenge for them.
The playground also features a teeter-totter, 4 swings, and a bigger kid play structure. The slide on that play structure is really high!
It's great that the play area is fenced in and has rubberized turf. The only bummer is that there are no bathrooms.
