St. Mary's Square is a lovely little park on the border between Chinatown and Downtown. We've been here a few times and really like that it's clean and rarely crowded.
The square itself is pretty big with lots of benches for nearby office workers to eat their lunch and enjoy the sun. The play area is in the northeast corner. Even with the very urban location, it's pretty quiet unless there is a fire engine going down California Street.
There are three play structures. One play structure is in sand and has shovels, pulleys, and tubes for digging. Another play structure is a train and the last is a regular play structure with a slide, rope nets, and a tree house like design.
Above the play area and to the right is a blacktop area which is where the swings are. Everything is on rubberized turf except for the first structure that sits part way in sand.
The statue is of Dr. Sun Yat Sen who was the father of the Chinese Republic and the first President. It's quite tall at 12 feet high.
