Description
The Sports and Community Recreation Park in Pleasanton is a huge park at 105 acres. It has to be one of the Pleasanton Recreation Department's crowning achievements. The fact that so many well-developed fields are all in one location is wonderful.
This park boasts 12 soccer fields, 25 baseball/softball fields, two football fields, one basketball court, a sand volleyball court, a 2.15 mile walking/bike riding path, a skateboard track, four sets of bathrooms, several concession stands, ample parking, and three play areas. It is very well designed.
The three play areas are spread out roughly one at each end and one in the middle. The first one I'm describing is what I call the blue play area. It is nearest to Hopyard Rd. The blue play area has one big blue play structure (surprise). There is a big kid and a little kid section to this structure, but mainly it appears to be for the ages 5 and up crowd. There are eight slides here, a bridge, and many climbing opportunities. The ground covering is tanbark and there is lots of shade next to, but not over the play area. There are also a group picnic area and bathrooms nearby.
The second play area (yellow) is right in the middle of the park surrounded by ball fields. This is the smallest play structure of the three and clearly made for older kids. It also has tanbark covering and bathrooms nearby. There are four slides and two tot swings.
At the end of Sports Park Dr. is the red play area. This is next to the basketball and sand volleyball courts. It also has tanbark covering, bathrooms across the parking lot, and a few benches. This play area has two separate play structures for big kids and little kids. There are six slides, four big kid swings, a small climbing wall, and lots of climbing opportunities.
This park really is a beauty and I am sure it is quite well used on the weekends and evenings during sports seasons.
