Description
Southside Community Park is a great 19 acre park with a fantastic play area that is accessible to all children. The play area is an incredible16,800 sq. ft. and is located next to the pool with bathrooms nearby.
The theme of the play area is solar system. Look for the sun on the cement in the center of the play area and the planets in the rubberized turf. Even the whimsical public art in the park follows the space theme.
The play area has three distinct sections: an adventure play area for ages 5-12, a tot lot play area for ages 2-5, and a rubberized surface play area for babies under 2. Both the adventure play area and the tot lot have play structures with access ramps and handrails. There are also many unique features such as play equipment with sound features, a merry-go-round, and pathways with different colors and textures that create a sensory enriched play area.
In addition, there is a swimming and wading pool, 1 basketball court, 1 bocce ball court, 2 community centers, 2 tennis courts, a lake with fishing piers, a community garden, an amphitheater, a par fitness course, several group picnic areas, public art, and a 3/4 of a mile path around the lake.
My kids loved the sand pit with its 2 diggers and sand table. One nice thing for safety is the 3 ft high wall and fence that separates the west side of the play area from the street.
