Description
Sonoma State Historic Park is actually a collection of historical attractions consisting of six midtown locations near Sonoma's Plaza. The six buildings are: Mission San Francisco Solano, the Blue Wing Inn, Sonoma Barracks, the Toscano Hotel, the Servants Quarters (the remains of La Casa Grande) and Vallejo's Home. What is great is that one admission ($3 adults and $2 children) lets you visit all of the attractions. Admissions can be purchased at the Mission and the Barracks.
Sonoma is a very picturesque town located in the heart of the beautiful Wine Country. The town is situated around a central plaza (the largest of its kind in California) filled with charming shops and restaurants. This is where the Sonoma State Historic Parkāsite of the northernmost Franciscan Mission in California and birthplace of the California State Bear Flag- begins.
This a great trip if your student is near fourth grade since a major focus of study for fourth graders in California is the missions and the colonization of the state. In the plaza there is a great park with lots of shade trees and a small duck pond. Pop over to Mary's Pizza Shack for a delicious, kid-friendly lunch and then over to Ben and Jerry's for a yummy treat . Or make a day of the trip and stop at Traintown for some amusement park fun.
