Description
Shorebird Park in Berkeley is right next to Adventure Playground at the Berkeley Marina. This park is a more traditional park with sand and tanbark, play structures, benches, bathrooms, and a nature center.
The playground is wheelchair accessible in some parts. There are raised rubber turf areas crossing through the sand. There is a tot play structure and a big kid play structure with a total of three slides. The park is right next to the shore/beach and so there are wonderful opportunities for tromping around in the mud and learning about the shoreline animals.
Near the play area is the Strawbale Nature Center. It is named that because it actually is built of strawbales. In fact, it is the first municipal strawbale building in the United States. The Nature Center houses two salt water tanks and many displays on marine mammals and birds. It also holds many classes during the week. Its hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 9 am to 5 pm.
