Description
Shannon Park is a great community park off of San Ramon Road. It has a big water feature, two play areas, a big sand pit, a natural creek, and a community center. It really is a great design for a park with only 10 acres.
The water feature has a waterfall with a shallow pool. The pool is deep enough for preschoolers to swim in. Kids can splash under the waterfall and under the bridge. There are also shallow steps into the pool. Off to the side is what looks like another wading area with jets or small fountains. Probably the best thing about the water feature is that it is right next to a shaded picnic area, so supervising the kids is easy and comfortable. It is a great place to cool off!
There are two play areas separated by the water feature. In the tot area there is a play structure with three slides and two swings. The ages 5-12 play area has a wonderful play structure and the sand pit. The sand pit is actually above the play area and not accessible by a path. This play structure has four slides, a climbing wall, a climbing net, a bridge, and a sort of tower for the kids to play king of the mountain in.
A creek separates the Shannon Park from its community center. This is a fabulous place to explore nature. The community center is accessible by a walking bridge.
It was a little windy at the park the day we visited, but my kids didn't care. They loved the park and so did I.
