Description

Shadow Cliffs is a very popular swimming and fishing spot only a mile from downtown Pleasanton on Stanley Blvd. On hot summer weekends there is often a line of cars at the kiosk waiting to pay to get into the park.

Shadow was once a gravel quarry which was donated to East Bay Regional Park District by Kaiser Industries. It has since been turned into a 266 acre park with an 80 acre lake for swimming and fishing, a separate area with four flume waterslides, and lots of picnic areas. Besides the main lake, Shadow Cliffs has a chain of smaller lakes and ponds in the back area. No swimming or boating is allowed here; the shady areas and quiet waters make for a peaceful retreat on hot summer days.

The swimming beach has a changing rooms and a refreshment stand, open on weekends in spring and fall, and daily during summer months. Lifeguards are on duty during the summer months, but swimming is allowed throughout the year in the designated area, at the swimmer's own risk. The beach has a very gradual drop off and is perfect for those who just want to wade or splash. There is no separate entry fee for the swimming beach.

The Rapids Waterslide is privately owned and operated. It is open on weekends in the spring and fall, and daily during the hot summer months. Riders must be at least 42 inches tall.
