Description
San Ramon Valley Olympic Pool and Aquatic Center is a great place for tots and for older kids. There are three pools: a zero depth entry wading pool with a play structure, a shallow 25 yard pool in an "L" shape and a 50 meter by 25 yard lap pool with diving boards and a tube water slide.
The fenced in wading pool had a great play structure with two additional water features to the sides- hanging buckets that would dump when they were filled up and a mushroom shower. The play structure has a tube slide, a tunnel, water cannons, and showers. There were always two lifeguards on duty and an additional person was sitting at the gate keeping a head count for the wading pool.
Next to the fenced wading pool is the "L" shaped 25 yard pool. This is not too deep and was a great place for kids to practice their swimming skills, yet be able to touch the bottom. There are stairs for entry on one side.
There are a couple of shaded viewing areas with small picnic tables, but those fill up quickly. My advice- bring lots of sunscreen.
The recreational swim hours are 11am to 1 pm M-Th for the wading pool only. M-F the whole facility is open for recreational swim from 1-5 pm and then from 7-8:30 pm. Saturday and Sunday the hours are from 12- 4 pm.
A couple of things that I really liked were the M-Th staggered opening because at 1 pm the bigger kids left the wading pool for the 25 yard pool with its inner-tubes in a roped off section of the pool and also for the waterslide. The noise level in the wading pool area dropped dramatically. Also, this relatively new facility has a family changing room which is perfect when you have kids of different genders.
