Description
San Leandro Family Aquatic Center is new and very nice. There is only one pool, but it has three sections to it. Very odd shape, but very practical. The water was also warmer than usual pools, which was really nice.
The largest section is the zero depth entry wading pool with the play structure. The main feature is the play structure with its tube slide, dual slide, and showers. The play structure area also has a water sheet that is activated by turning a wheel and some small fountains that my daughter (2 years old) thoroughly enjoyed.
From the wading pool you can duck under a floating rope and be in the shallow swimming area. The area is probably 3' deep, which is perfect for 3-5 year old kids to practice swimming skills, yet be able to touch the bottom.
The last section has three lap swim lanes and the landing area for the 17 feet tall, 119 feet long water slide. This water slide has a very gentle decline and is open on top. It's perfect for the first time rider. Kids must be at least 48" tall to ride.
The aquatic center has lots of lounge chairs and some shaded picnic tables next to the pool. There is also a great grassy hill to the side. I was impressed that this facility had a family changing room which is great when you have kids of different genders.
San Leandro Family Aquatic Center is open for weekend recreational swim the 3rd Saturday in May and closes the last weekend in September. Weekday recreational swim begins the first Monday following the last school day (for public schools) through Labor Day. Recreational swim hours are 1:00 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. daily and Monday through Thursday evenings 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
