San Felipe Park is a wide open park in the foothills of Hayward. It also has a community center building in the park.
There are two separate play areas for older and younger kids. Both play structures are modern with lots of climbing and sliding opportunities. The play areas are not fenced in, but are partially enlosed by the surrounding hillside.
The big kid play structure has a rolling log, unique climbing net in the shape of a tube, and three tall slides. The taller part of the play structure is in shade for some of the day.
There is not much shade other than a cluster of mature trees near one end of the big kid play area. There are several picnic tables off to the side of the tot play area and benches on either side of both play areas. There is also a small path that encircles the play areas and is great for riding bikes.
The park also has a basketball court and a big sloped grassy field which is great for running down.
Beware that the community center building is where the restrooms are and it is not always open.
San Felipe Park is about a block up D St. from Sulphur Creek. Sulphur Creek is an awesome wildlife education and rehabilitation center! Christine runs most of the toddler and preschool programs and she is a gem! Many times parents and their kids do a program at Sulphur Creek and then head up to San Felipe to play.
