Description
Plaza Park is at the heart of the city of Sonoma. All four sides of the park are surrounded by art galleries, boutique shops, and yummy restaurants. When you take Highway 12/ Broadway into Sonoma, it ends at the town plaza and its beautiful park.
There are two separate play areas with wonderful play structures funded by the Sonoma Valley Mother's Club and the Rotary Club. The power and will of a community is amazing. Both play areas have sand covering. The ages 5-12 play structure has one slide and four big kid swings which are wheelchair accessible. The age 2-5 play structure has four slides, four swings that are wheelchair accessible.
The park is full of big, old trees that provide lots of shade. So many people were picnicking under them the day we were there. There are lots of benches around the play areas, by the small duck pond, and through out the park. There is a small amphitheater which the bathrooms are located next to.
Across the street at the north end of the park is the Sonoma Mission State Historic Park which houses the 21st mission, Mission San Francisco Solano, and the Sonoma Barracks. We enjoyed lunch at Mary's Pizza Shack across the street from the park and an afternoon treat from Ben and Jerry's that was perfect for a hot day.
