Description
Lake Temescal was one of East Bay Regional Park District's three original lakes when it opened in 1936. It is a beautiful oasis in a very urban setting.
It was originally constructed with a dam as a storage lake for drinking water. Today fishing and swimming are allowed in separate areas.
There is a roped off swimming area with an additional roped off shallow area. This area is staffed with lifeguards during the summer from 11 am to 6 pm.
There is a grassy area behind the beach and two bath houses for changing nearby.
One of the pictures shows the Junior Lifeguard Program in session. This is a wonderful program for kids who are comfortable in the water and want to learn more about life saving techniques. Most sessions are a week long and run from 9 am to 4 pm. For more information: http://www.ebparks.org/kids
