Description
The Nut Tree is a very famous stop along Highway 80 in Vacaville. It first opened in 1921 and grew into a very successful business with many different holdings, one of them being the amusement park.
Changing times forced the closure of the Nut Tree and demolition of many of its original buildings in 1996. However, the Nut Tree reopened in 2006 as a mixed-use development. It contains Nut Tree Plaza, Nut Tree Bocce Grove, Nut Tree Village and Nut Tree Complex. Some of the familiar stores operating there include Amici's East Coast Pizzeria, Fenton's, and Jelly Belly.
The Nut Tree Plaza is the amusement park portion and it is pretty neat for what it is. There's a train, a carousel, a play area, a giant chessboard, and a Kids' Korner. We really enjoyed playing there and then eating dinner at Amici's on our way back from a trip to Sacramento.
Admission is free to the Plaza area with the play area, chessboard, and rocking horses. The train and the carousel are $2 each. The Kids' Korner rides are $.25 each.
If you are traveling along Highway 80 and have not yet stopped at the new Nut Tree, give it a look. I think you will be impressed. I was.
