Description
Newark Community Park is a fabulous park. In the little kid play area there is a long, colorful caterpillar/dragon which is awesome because kids can climb along its back the whole way. In the big kid play area there is a wonderful rock climbing area that surrounds half of the play area. These are unique features that I don't see in too many parks.
I really like this park for a couple of reasons. The little kid play area, which is big, is in total shade. Also, the big kid play area has a huge wrap-around play structure with so many climbing and sliding opportunities. The little kid play area for ages 1-7 has three slides and the big kid play area has four slides and two bridges.
The park also has a sand pit, tennis courts, a field, a basketball court, a back stop for hitting balls against, a water feature, and a very active recreation center. The play structures appeared to be older, but in good condition. I wasn't worried about gaps in steps or bars that were too far apart.
There are plenty of benches around the play areas for easy supervising, but that caterpillar/dragon was so cool, you just might find yourself walking along its back.
