Moonlight State Beach is a great beach. We spent a wonderful afternoon here, even with misty rain. It has a beautiful, guarded beach; a free parking lot; a tennis court; 3 sand volleyball courts; showers; fire rings; a raised ramp down to the shore; a snack shack; and a wonderful play area.
I was so impressed to find this great play area right next to a beach. As if kids wouldn't have enough to do at the beach. Way to spoil the kids and parents (easy supervision). There are several benches next to the play area and a picnic bench nearby.
The play structure has 4 slides, several climbing nets, a bridge, monkey bars, an Arthur theme, and two big umbrella shade coverings. There are two big kid, two tot swings, and two spring mounted animals next to it. It's nice that half of the play structure and both of the tot swings are on rubberized turf. The play area really adds a splash of color to the beach.
Moonlight State Beach was so named because locals used to come here in the early 1900's for midnight picnics. It's a wide beach at B St. with a lifeguard headquarters station on the beach. There are portable lifeguard towers that can be moved up and down the long expanse of beach north and south of the B St. area.
