Description
Mellis Park is located west of Highway 99 in central Modesto. The park has lots of shade and a covered picnic area, which is good with the summer heat.
There are two play structures, a community center, two basketball courts, lighted ball fields, and two horseshoe pits. The tot play area did not have any shade, but the older kid play area had plenty. There is sand covering for the play areas.
The weekend I visited there were lots of people just "hanging out". I'm pretty sure I witnessed some illegal activity too. I didn't feel safe here, even though it was out in the open.
