Description
Marina Park is a big park spread along San Leandro's Marina across from the golf course. It's two play areas have their own parking lots and are separated by a very big lawn so if you are meeting friends, be sure to specify which play area.
At the north end of the park is the tot play structure- ages 2-7. It has one play structure with four slides, two tot swings, cool porpoise and whale climbing statues, and tanbark. There is a group picnic area, a sand volleyball court, and bathrooms right next to the play area.
The south end has another parking lot, bathrooms, group picnic area, and the ages 5-12 play area. This play area has tanbark, a play structure with two slides, four big kid swings and two tot swings. Both play areas are connected by a paved circular loop that surrounds the 30 acre park.
This play area is right next to the entrance for a great walking/bike riding loop out into the bay. The one mile long loop has one slight hill and a par course. We have ridden and walked it many times. Also near this play area is the entrance to head south to the San Mateo Bridge on the SF Bay Trail.
Marina Park is just south of the Oakland Airport, so it is great for watching planes come in for a landing. Also, because of the fairly constant breeze and wide open lawn area, it is great for kite flying too. One thing to note is that this is a very popular park for family get-togethers and can get crowded on the weekends.
