Description
Del Valle has two swimming beaches with lifeguards on duty during posted periods. I recommend that you wear sandals to the water's edge because the beaches consist of pea-sized gravel. Year-round swimming is allowed in much of the lake, but at the swimmer's own risk.
To get to East Beach make a right immediately after the entrance to the park. To get to West Beach continue straight after entering the park and then make a right when the road ends. In my humble opinion, West Beach is better, but not in the late summer.
West Beach, at the end of the lake, has a grass area closer to the beach and the water tends to be calmer here. However, as the summer goes on, the lake level falls and sometimes there is very little water to play in at West Beach.
East Beach is on the side of a large, open section of the lake and it gets quite windy here. The water can be very choppy. Great for wind surfing, difficult for swimming. Be sure to bring water shoes or sandals for either beach.
There are restrooms and changing rooms at both beaches and concession stands too.
