Description
Kennedy Park in Hayward is a big community park on Hesperian Blvd near A St. and next to Target. In addition to play structures, tennis courts and picnic areas, it has a Merry -Go-Round, a train ride, a petting zoo, and a pony ride.
The play area has two big play structures with a fort like theme and a total of 11 slides. The biggest play structure is designed in a square shape so that everything is connected via monkey bars, zip line, etc. There are lots of benches and picnic tables by the play area which makes for easy supervision. The play structures and tanbark covering are fairly new so they seem really clean.
Kennedy offers lots of group picnic areas with lots of shade. I have fond memories of group picnics at this park from my childhood. Be aware that on the weekends the park can get very crowded.
The attractions at the park are not on the grand scale, but when you are 4 feet tall, they are the greatest. There is train ride that goes around the whole park and through a tunnel with the cars and station carrying the names of local communities (Ashland, Castro Valley, San Lorenzo, and Hayward). Also, there is a pony ride and the Triple Pines Ranch petting zoo with goats, sheep and geese, and then the Merry-Go-Round.
Tickets are $1.50 each, except for the pony ride which is $1.75. You can also purchase 3 attractions for $4.00. The attractions are open from 11:30 am to 4:30 pm on weekends, holidays and school vacations.
