Graceada Park is in the heart of downtown Modesto. The park is the gathering spot for so many events ranging from concerts to family birthday parties since it has a really nice amphitheater, great play area with a water feature, and tons of shade.
The play area is mostly shaded which is a good thing since it was 95 degrees when I visited. Although it was that hot out, it really didn't feel so bad because of the shade and the breeze. There is a tot area with two slides and two big play structures with six slides in the older kid area. One of these play structures is built around an old shade tree. The structures have lots of climbing opportunities to go up and poles for sliding down and a bridge. The older kid play area has tanbark covering and the tot area has sand.
Graceada has two water features. One is a fenced-in wading pool that is staffed by the recreation center. It costs $1 for kids ages 12 and under and it closes at 5pm. There are also fountains next to the recreation center that spurt up from the cement. The kids loved those.
The park is quite extensive with the amphitheater at one end, the recreation center and play areas in the middle, then six lighted tennis courts, then more grassy area with picnic tables at the other end. There is a paved path that meanders throughout the park. It did appear that alcohol and jumpy houses were allowed.
There was an Indian concert/festival going on the day I visited. I didn't understand a single word of the Indian rappers (yes, I said rappers), but teenage girls screaming speak a universal language.
