Description

Alex Giualini Plaza Park is named after one of Hayward's most popular mayors. The park was created in 2005 next to the abandoned city hall building. The building was abandoned in the early 1980's due to cracks in the structure from the movement of the earth. You see, it sits smack on the Hayward Fault. So if you ever want to give your kids a geology lesson and let them burn off some energy, Giualini Plaza Park is the place for you.

The park has rubberized turf which has its good points and bad points. A great point is that when kids run and jump they seem to fly higher and longer. The kids really like that. However, when it gets hot, the whole park seems to cook. Unfortunately, there is not much shade.

There is a nice climbing wall, a small play structure, some ride-on rockers, and four swings. Two neat features that the play structure has is a unique teeter-totter and a stand-on rocker.

The park is all fenced with bushes to obscure most of the view of busy Mission Blvd. The only gate is at the parking lot, so supervision is easy.
