Description
Fairyland is a wonderful ten acre children's storybook park on the shores of Lake Merritt in Oakland. In fact, the history goes that Walt Disney was inspired so much after an early 1950's visit to the park, he used some of Fairyland's innovations in his own famous park.
I think Fairyland is the perfect park for the under 5 set. There are many theater programs for older kids, but they will probably think many of the rides are "uncool".
Part of the reason I think Fairyland is wonderful is its smallness and affordability. I find we can spend a few hours there, ride everything, visit all of the animals (careful the goats steal food), listen to the fairytales ($2 for a key), have lunch, and then head home for rest time.
I also appreciate that Fairylands admittance policy is "No child without an adult and no adult without a child".
