East Avenue Park is surprising. At first glance it just looks like a park with a play area, a basketball court, horseshoe pits, picnic areas, and a big, grass field. But as soon as you head back into the park, its true beauty emerges.
At the back of the park is where it connects with the Hayward Green Belt. The Hayward Green Belt is an approximately 3 mile long strip of urban oasis. Most of the trail is shaded, there's a creek which runs the length of the green belt, and when you're hiking it, you just feel as if you are a million miles away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
The play area has one big kid play structure with a really tall slide, a climbing structure, and 4 swings. It's nice, because the play area is partially shaded most of the day and the bathrooms are nearby.
East Avenue is teaming with kids during the summer. It's the site of the very popular Camp Tenderfoot, Camp Potowatomi, and La Vida Nueva summer days camps run by the Hayward Area Recreation District. In 2011 these camps turned 50 years old. They are fabulous and have withstood the test of time.
