Dan Nicholas Park is an incredible park. We really enjoyed our day there. It was astounding how much there was to do!
The park encompasses 330 acres of land that was a gift to Rowan County from Dan Nicholas in 1968. The county made a magnificent park on those 330 acres. There more than 10 wonderful attractions, 17 covered group picnic shelters, over 70 camping sites, 10 acre Lake Murtis where you can fish or paddle boat on, a great playground, and much, much more.
We visited most of the attractions when we went in June of 2015. The cost was $33 for all attractions. The fee attractions include the paddleboats, the gem mine (which my kids loved!), the Wildlife Adventures, Hayden's Carousel, the train, the petting barn, and miniature golf. The free attractions include the Cheerwine Aquarium, the playgrounds, the nature center, and the water plaza.
The Jaycee Playground and Nick's Playground have a total of 23 slides, 3 little kid swings, 5 big kid swings, a climbing wall, and numerous play structures.
While we didn't camp, it is a great place to camp. There are pull through sites, sites with water and power hook-up, sites on the lake, and six cabins that can sleep 5 people. Camping prices range from $17 (Rowan County resident, without power and water) to $24 (non-county resident, with power and water).
We were so impressed with this park and are so glad we spent the day there. My kids can't wait to go back!
