Community Park in Davis is famous for its Rainbow City Adventure Playground. Rainbow City was constructed by thousands of Davis residents over 4 days in 1991. It truly is the community's park.
Rainbow City is a wooden adventure playground with 1/2 sand and 1/2 tanbark covering. The play area has lots of places to hide and run around, plus a zip line. It has two big kid swings, one tot swing, one handicapped swing, and one tire swing. Plus, it has a neat swinging/hanging step as you enter the play area. Lots of swinging!
In addition to Rainbow City there are two other play areas up the hill. One is a shaded big kid play area with two swings, four slides, another zip line, and a hanging bridge. The tot play area is not in shade, but has two swings, two slides, and a tunnel. These two play areas are next to the bathrooms, a definite plus.
Community Park is a huge park with numerous ball fields, a community pool, the big Davis Art Center, a sand volleyball court, and a skate/bmx park. Right next to the skate park is an awesome cement slide. This one has a curve in it and the boys I watched had more fun sliding down and almost going over the edge at the curve. I think they were intentionally trying to do it.
One thing I noticed about Davis is that it is very bicycle friendly with dedicated bike lanes on many streets. Several of its parks are connected by bike or walking trails. Community Park was no different with lots of paths. I thought it was a great park. The next time we are headed to or from Sacramento or Tahoe, we will definitely stop here with the kids to let them run and play.
