Description
Castro Valley Community Park — also known as the Castro Valley Community Center (CVCC) — is Castro Valley's biggest park and offers the most amenities. Its two major play structures have been redone in the last few years and its water feature is completely redone with a recycled water filtration system in place.
The park contains four play structures. Two are older and two are newer. One of the older play structures is designed for toddlers and is in a fenced play area with sand covering and four tot swings. Countless playgroups use this play area as their meeting place.
The two newer play structures are for ages 2-5 and 5-12. Both of these are in tanbark. There are many climbing and sliding opportunities between these two structures. A big sand pit with play table, the park's water feature, and a climbing rock separate the two play areas.
The park is host to numerous parties most weekends. Occasionally there is even a wedding in the park. The two parking lots help out a lot with those events. Even so, nice weekends the park can get very crowded and parking on the street becomes limited when the lots are full.
Community Park also has a lighted ball field, three tennis courts, a basketball court, and a recreation center. The recreation center is constantly used for programs such as preschool, gymnastics, dance, and exercise classes to name a few. Douglas Morrison Theater is also located at the park and puts on several shows a year.
Something to take note of is that the bathrooms are near the ball field, which is quite a walk away from the play area, especially if you have young ones.
