Description
Cannery Park is a new park near downtown Hayward. It is adjacent to the newly renovated Burbank Elementary School.
Cannery Park has a play structure, sand pit, water feature, and skateboard area, along with many other common park features. There are some shade trees, but not many are full sized yet.
The play structure is one of those newly designed ones with honestly not a lot to do on it. It looks really cool, but there is just not too much to do. One neat thing the play area does have is an X-WAVE or tri-fold teeter -totter.
The play structure and the swings are on rubberized turf, which can get warm on a hot day. The swings are to the side by the bathrooms and the small sand pit does have a shade awning.
The water feature does the trick on a hot day, but it is small. It consists of mainly two water cannons. It sits on a splash pad so there is very little standing water.
The skate park has two bowls and a couple of rails, but is overall not too big or challenging. There is a basketball court, large ball field with two baseball diamonds and lights, and a covered picnic area by the school grounds.
The address says B St, but once you get to the end of B St. turn left and follow it around. There is plenty of street parking near the play area.
One wonderful thing to mention about this park is that it is right next to active train tracks and the Hayward Amtrak Station. From the play area kids can clearly see and hear the train as it pulls into the station. My son refers to this park at the train park and bellows at the top of his lungs, "TRAIN!" when he sees one.
