Disney's California Adventure Park is next to Disneyland in Orange County. Downtown Disney, which is a shopping and restaurant district, separates the two parks. If the last time that you went was when it was just Disneyland, boy are you in for some surprises.
The park's theme is California's fascinating history and exciting future. The attractions, parades, and shows celebrate everything distinctly Californian from the gold rush to Hollywood's golden era to the special allure of the beach helping you to discover the vast and diverse Golden State.
California Adventure has 7 amazing lands that showcase the Disney and Pixar characters and stories. The 2 newest additions—Buena Vista Street and the incredible Cars Land—join the themed lands of Grizzly Peak, Pacific Wharf, Paradise Pier, Hollywood Land, and "a bug's land". Be sure to catch the World of Color show.
Starting in the spring of 2016 Disney began surge pricing for 1-day park tickets. That means the admission price fluctuates based on crowd expectations for the particular day. A weekend day in July will cost more than a weekday day in January. Also, a 3-day park ticket is the minimum number of days which include a Magic Morning entrance. That means you can enter either California Adventure or Disneyland one hour early, depending on the day.
We have visited twice and found the park to be very entertaining, especially Radiator Springs Racers from the Cars movie. The park might be more appealing to you if you are familiar with Pixar movies. Even without brushing up on your Disney knowledge, you'll be fine. After all, Disney parks pride themselves as being the one place anyone can be a kid again.
Special thanks to Jamie for the pictures.
