Burton Park is San Carlos's oldest and most well known of its city parks. It is most likely the most heavily used as well. At 10 acres it has just about anything you would think a park should have and then some!
The park has two children's play areas (one completely fence-enclosed and each with a play structure, slide, and swings), a water play spray area, mature shade trees perfect for picnicking under, Madsen softball diamond, a large soccer field, Flanagan baseball field, three tennis courts, a tennis practice court, tow full basketball courts, the Kiwanis Recreation Building, two horseshoe pits, numerous picnic tables, barbeque pits, and a 1/3 miles walking loop.
The children's play area and water play areas seem crowded into a small space to me. There were lots and lots of kids playing there the summer weekday that we visited, so that could be why it seemed crowded. The big kid play area is awesome. There was a lot to do and a good amount of shade was provided by shade umbrellas, so the structure didn't get too hot. The little kids play area is fenced in with gates. Their structures were a more spread out in the fenced area.
The water play area is a spray pad and it separates the big kid play area from the little kid play area. Water play times are 11:00 am to 12:00 pm, 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm, and 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm during the months of May-October. I liked that there was a low wall next to the splash pad that was perfect for sitting on and supervising. There's also plenty of grass with sunny and shady spots on the other side of the splash pad.
