Description
Briones is a beautiful park. It's fantastic for hiking, running, enjoying wildflowers, and savoring peace and quiet. It's not so fantastic for kids though, unless they're into the aforementioned activities.
I really loved the solitude of Briones. My daughter loved being pushed in the stroller and looking for cows. Unfortunately I had to fib and tell her the one that was d-e-a-d was just sleeping.
Briones is over 6,000 acres of secret wilderness. Even though it's bounded by Lafayette, Walnut Creek, Pleasant Hill, Concord, and Martinez, I'll bet most people never get there. There are peaks in the park from which you can only see parklands for miles. We set off hiking along Bear Creek to the lagoons and after 1 hour had only made it 1/2 way.
In addition to hiking, there are group camping areas, a nature area, picnic areas and an archery range with its own club, Briones Archers.
There are five entrances to the park, but the two most developed are Alhambra Creek Valley Staging Area off Reliez Valley Road and the Bear Creek Road Staging Area near Orinda and Lafayette.
