Birch Grove Park is a nice quiet park bordered by Smith Ave., Birch St., and Robertson Ave. There is a parking lot off of Smith Ave next to the tennis courts, but it is far away from the play area. Beware that Birch St. itself is not a through street. Google Maps shows that it is, and it looks like is used to be, but there is a school there now. The best way to the play area is to approach Birch St. from Robertson Ave.
The big kid play area at Birch Grove is really neat. It is surrounded by a molded rock wall that makes for good scrambling/climbing. There is even a tunnel slide through the rock near the sand pit. This play structure is designed like boats with bows and has lots of climbing ladders and poles.
Near the water feature is the tot play area. This play structure has some swings and a small tunnel, but no slides.
Birch Grove has small hills from which you can easily see the play areas. It has picnic benches, a basketball court, and a ball field. There lots of trees in the grassy area, but the play structures are not shaded. No need to worry about cooling off- just play in the water.
