Description

Alta Plaza Park has to be the park with the most gorgeous view in the city. I was really stunned by what a wonderful view it is from the playground. In fact, I lost my kids a few times on the playground because I wasn't watching them- I was enjoying the view!

The park is built on a hill, so one side is tiered terraces with a set of stairs that leads to the playground. The other side of the hill is a nice sloped grassy area which many people sun bathe, picnic, or sit and chat on. There are paths and benches all throughout the park. Alta Plaza is also a popular park with dog owners.

The ground covering is rubberized turf with a sand pit with a digger. The tot play structure is closest to the sand pit, but there is only a small cement berm separating the tot play area from the big kid play area. That's great because it gives kids more room to run.

As you can see from the pictures, there is a lot to do at this playground! From the webbed dome to the train structure to the swings, teeter-totter, and play structure, there was always a kid on each one. We visited on a San Francisco summer afternoon in September and the playground was so crowded. It was wonderful to see so many kids enjoying it.

Next to the play area is a basketball/ tennis court that has killer views. And there are 2 more tennis courts besides that one. This park has something for everyone.
