Alameda Park is a 2 acre park in the shape of a 90 degree angle in the heart of Santa Barbara. It's only a block away from State St. The play area is on East Micheltorena St.
The play area, named Kids' World, was built by local residents over a 4 day build in November of 1993. It's 8,000 square feet of adventure fun.
I love these types of parks. It's easy to lose the kids in all of the castle turrets, hidden areas, bridges, etc, but since the whole play area is fenced in, it's not a worry.
My kids loved climbing on the giant whale and shark, running away from daddy by sliding down one of the slides, swinging in the tire swing (for what seemed like hours), and testing their climbing skills on the various features.
The whole park is shaded and there are paths that criss-cross it, so everything is easy to get to. Walk across East Micheletorena to get to the duck pond and the Alice Keck Park Memorial Gardens.
